It seems Amal Clooney wanted to circumvent the law and suggested that Julian Assange get a diplomatic post with the Equadorian Embassy. She felt it could help him get out of Britain, have diplomatic Immunity and it paid well. This has just seen the light out day as papers have been released. So much for Amal being a good lawyer! Amal stopped working with Assange in 2016.
